Safety nets are used in construction especially in high rise buildings to provide safety after a fall.
As the mantra goes “safety first”, it is also application to the construction industry.
There are two types of safety nets based on their applications – vertical safety nets and horizontal safety nets.
While the vertical safety net is made up of two layers, a horizontal safety net is made up of three.
A safety net is made in such a way that it gradually absorbs the velocity of fall until it becomes zero.

Each layer of a construction safety net is made of meshes of High Density Polyethylene (HDPE). The mesh sizes can range between 25 – 100mm depending on the use and placement of the safety net but it is advisable that mesh sizes be not two large such that they allow the passage of the object.
