Water levels are instruments made by pouring water in tubes (usually made of flexible rubber materials).

Water is filled into the tube of small diameter (around 790mm). The tube length ranges between 15m to 30m.

How a water level works is that the water in the tube tries to find an equilibrium, when both ends are raised. This equilibrium-water action is what you can use to find a level measurement. When equilibrium is reached and the water in the tubing is balanced, then you’ve found your level.

Simple as they are, water levels have been used from ancient time. Water levels are also said to be more accurate than laser levels over long distances.

In using a water level on a construction site to level a house, building or other construction works. You’ll need to place one end of the tube against the first level point, place the second end of the tube against the second level point and continue to adjust the tube while moving/adjusting the second end of the tube until the level of water in both ends of the tube are the same.
